Painting Restoration Toronto, removing facing of fresco
MPW Art Restoration Inc. was established by Monique Palma Whittaker, a painting conservator trained in both Canada and Italy. Over the course of a decade, the studio has developed a multidisciplinary team of conservators and technicians and has participated in a range of projects that collectively demonstrate technical competence, methodological rigour, and a holistic approach to conservation.
Field experience includes intervention on sites and artworks across Greece, Italy, England, and Spain encompassing interventions on artworks such as 2,000 year-old Roman frescoes, wall paintings from 16th century Rome, contemporary sculptural works in Canada, and significant ecclesiastical interiors in Europe and North America. These diverse engagements have informed the studio’s treatment protocols and analytical strategies, which are adapted to the material, cultural, and environmental contexts of each work.
MPW Art Restoration applies contemporary conservation science—sampling, materials analysis, reversible stabilization techniques, and documentation—within an ethical framework that prioritizes minimal intervention, material compatibility, and the preservation of historical evidence. Based in Toronto, Ontario, the studio offers professional conservation services to private collectors, galleries, religious institutions, and heritage properties throughout the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
